چکیده

Imposing a moderate level of nutrient deficiency may be an effective management strategy to limit vegetative growth and enhance maturity of Pima cotton (Gossypium barbadense L.). Whether such deficiency affects fiber quality of American Pima cotton, however, is not well known. A field study was conducted in 1991 and 1992 to determine the fiber quality responses of Pima cotton to nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization ranging between deficient and excess. Pima cotton cv. ‘‘S-7’’ was treated with nitrogen rates ranging between 0 and 269 kg ha 1 in a factorial combination with phosphorus rates ranging between 0 and 44 kg ha . Fiber property measurements included fiber length, strength, fineness, elongation, and color properties. Increasing rate of applied nitrogen significantly (P 0.05) increased fiber length, elongation, micronaire, and color characteristics and reduced fiber uniformity ratio in 1991. Cotton reproductive and fiber quality responses to nitrogen nutrition

Nutrient (N) stress affects cotton growth, primary physiological processes andfiber properties. This study utilized two sunlit growth chambers to compare cotton(cv. TM-1) responses to two levels of N nutrition imposed at the onset of floweringstage of development, 100 and 0% of optimum N, in plants grown under otherwiseoptimal temperature and soil moisture conditions. Flowers and bolls were tag...

Assessment of genetic variability, heritability and association of plant attributes with lint yield and fiber quality in advanced lines of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Information on genetic variability and heritability of plant attributes and their correlation with lint yield and fiber quality is important for planning breeding and selection strategies for prediction of genetic gains in cotton breeding programs. For these purpose, a field experiment was carried out using randomized complete block design with four replications in 2016 and 2017 at Hashem-Abad ...

Identification of soybean circular RNAs in response to low nitrogen and phosphorus stress

Soybean, one of the most important sources of edible oil and protein in the world, is exposed to various environmental biotic and abiotic stresses. These stresses can negatively impact the quality and quantity of soybean production. This study aimed to identify genes that express circular RNAs in response to low phosphorus and nitrogen stresses in soybean roots. Soybean seeds were grown under d...

Soil Test Calibration Evaluations for Phosphorus on Upland and Pima Cotton

Numerous field experiments were conducted at a wide range of sites in Arizona from 1988 through 1999 involving phosphate (P) fertilization of cotton (Gossypium spp.). A total of 21 site-years were used to study the effects of P on both Upland (G. hirsutum L.) and Pima (G. barbadense L.) varieties. The purpose of these experiments was to evaluate University of Arizona (UA) soil fertility guideli...
